RIP Rally Photography

After 4-5 years, thousands of photos, countless hours, and lots of $$$ spent, I'm going to retire from rally photography. Rallies are always something that were fun for me, but that was it, I made some great relationships and met alot of cool people, but unfortunately my rally budget is broke. I can't tell you how much $$$ I've spent on hotels, traveling, gas, and any other expenses. But most of all the time spent planning/scouting and after the fact of pictures (editing, returning emails, individual galleries, etc). I've just never gotten a real return from it, and unfortunately that's what I've been looking for the whole time, and I think I'm getting to a point that I only feel like I'm furthering my portfolio. There are many great rally photographers, and people that enjoy it way more than I do. It'd be alot different for me if I was an actual driver/team member, but I'm not.

As always, I'm still available for contact (and of course about past photos), and will still make it to the Races, But not professionally.

Take care,

your work will be greatly missed. I'll look at everything I have to see if I can put a little money in your pocket.

Awesome shots, Matt! Your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed by the other rally photographers.

Yeah, it's a pisser about what's happening with R-A and that there's no compensation for our efforts. I've confirmed that we've lost (since November) Lorne Trezise, Kevin Hahn, Kyle Funsten (at the end of the year) and now you. I've also been teetering on quitting and going back to shooting road racing. I received NOTHING from R-A shooting two events last year after Lorne was let go.

WOW... hope you come back if R-A gets their act together. If not, there's always NASA. Hope to see you out on the dusty trail again someday.

Cheers!
